“Good morning Uncle Bwak the 3rd,” I moaned as I woke up.
“Good morning grandson,” Uncle Bwak answered back.
I got up and slapped Ms. Rooster Rosie. “ Can you be quiet for like 5 seconds?!? You’ve been cawing all morning!!” I shouted.
My uncle walked up to me and put a wing on my shoulder. “Ahhh... I still remember the day that I almost got taken away to a factory farm. Don’t you?” Uncle asked.
I thought back to the day when Uncle Bwak almost got taken away. I could remember every specific thing that happened that day.
Two years ago a big truck came by and stopped at our farm. Our farmer, Sam, came out of the house to see what was happening. Then a big husky man stepped out of the truck and started to talk to Sam. We chickens were worried.
It sort of seemed like the man wanted Sam to hand something over. They both started walking towards the chicken coop and we all huddled up in fighting formation. When they got to the chicken coop the tall man looked around. Then he pointed at Uncle Bwak. He wanted to take Uncle Bwak to a factory farm!
I could tell that he really wanted Uncle Bwak since he was the biggest chicken in the coop. Sam shook his head no and stood guard at the chicken coop. “You can’t have my chicken,” Sam grunted giving the man the evil eye. The man grabbed Sam by the arm and dragged him away from the chicken coop. But I could still hear them. “Let’s make a deal,” the man said.
“We’ll have a dance contest. The winner gets to take the chicken.”
Right away Sam started to sweat because he knew he wasn’t a very good dancer. But he still accepted the challenge. The man took out his iPod and put on some dubstep music. The man danced first. Sam stared in awe as the man pulled off flips and tricks and even some breakdance moves. Sam knew he was going to lose.
When the man was done it was Sam’s turn. “Hit it!” Sam shouted and some western music went on. Sam did the worm, the wave, the penguin, and other dance moves. When Sam was done he looked over at the man and saw that he was staring at Sam open-mouthed.
“Wow,” the man said, “you have great dance moves!”
“Really?” Sam asked in surprise.
“Yeah! Well, anyway you got lucky. You can keep your chicken.” And the man walked away to his truck.
Sam was glad that he got to keep Uncle Bwak. But he was still surprised that he had won the dance contest. Sam never knew that he had “great” dance moves.
He stood there for a while confused and then walked inside the house. All the chickens sighed and went back to their daily routines. And that was the day when Uncle Bwak almost got taken away.
